The following recipe will make up plenty of food for your Golden to enjoy, and should last you about a week.
Ingredients:
1kg chicken breast/thighs
2 cups rice
1 cup broccoli chopped
1 cup carrots chopped small
1 cup frozen peas
1 cup baby spinach
1 cup sweet potato chopped small
1 free range egg
3 cups Premium Dog Food (Kibble)
1 large Pot
1 Strainer
1 Large Container
Method:
Chop the chicken, carrots & sweet potato and put them in the pot along with broccoli, baby spinach, peas & rice and fill with water approximately 5cms over your ingredients.
Place a lid over the pot and bring to the boil until the rice is cooked. By now the chicken should also be cooked through. Keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't dry out. Add more water if necessary.
Put your strainer in the sink and empty your pot (may take a few goes).
Run some cold water through the food and strainer to remove any starch.
In a large container, add 1 cup of premium dog food (kibble) to the bottom layer. Then add your strainer load of veggies & chicken.
Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until all chicken & veggies are out of the pot. You should end up with approximately 3 layers of premium dog food (kibble) and 4 layers of veggies & chicken.
Portion up into bags (or keep in the container) and serve warm. Keep in the fridge.
Go on, grab a chicken and get cooking - you've no idea what a difference home cooking will make to your dog over a couple of weeks until you give it a try. And I bet your Golden will be once again begging for their meals, just like when they were growing puppies!
With regard to portion size, we feed Malley approximately 2 cups, morning and night, although she certainly wants more! Its important to not overfeed your dog, as this can still lead to obesity and subsequent health issues. Just because she asks for more, doesn't mean she gets more!
